This article helps you to request API credentials for Farnell, element 14 and Newark

Step 1 - Create your account

European customers can create a Farnell account following this link. ( ℹ️ If you already have an Farnell account you can skip this step.) ⚠️ If you are outside Europe you may have a different process. Please send an email to [email protected] with a request to find out how to request a business account in the your region.


Step 2 - Register a partner portal account

Open the following link and fill out the online form. Below is an example of how to fill out the form. Please make sure to select a strong password as indicated by Farnell.

Once you have entered all mandatory information, accept the terms on the bottom and hit register.

Please note this process works only for customers in Europe. For customers outside Europe please get in contact with Farnell via [email protected] to check how to request API keys in your region.


Step 3 - Request API key [list prices]

Sign in to your created partner portal account here. As you have not yet created an API key in your account you will see this screen. Select Get API keys and fill out the form.

❓ In the online form you will be asked for some information that is relevant to the API key request. Below you will find the questions and possible answers. You can simply write or copy these answers to the appropriate place in the online form.

Luminovo is the copilot for the electronics supply chain. The all-in-one software solution manages the complexity of monitoring, quoting and procuring PCBAs for its users and enables them to take care of their BOM, PCB and manufacturing without headaches.

Next, you need to select which Web APIs this application should use. This selection depends on your usage and on how many API requests you need.

ℹ️ Key Rate Limits: You can start by selecting High.

Farnell may reduce your key rate limit and you may need to request higher key rate limits.

If you need to increase the API rate limits, you can always contact your Luminovo Customer Support.

Please review the information that you have entered above and agree to the terms of service. If you agree, select I agree to the terms of service. To send out the request select Register Application.

If the registration was successful, you will be redirected to the following page, where you find the API key.

❗ Please note that the API key is first in status "waiting". This means that you cannot yet activate the API key in Luminovo. It usually takes 1-3 days until the API key is approved by Farnell and can be activated.
Once the status is approved, continue with Step 5.

💡 The API Key can be used to get list prices.

To request credentials for contract prices, follow the instructions in Step 4.

Step 4 - Request contract prices

Once you have received the API key, request the Customer ID & Secret Key to also get contract prices.

📫 For this, send an email to [email protected]. This is a group email for all the people in all regions that can provide you Customer ID & Secret Key.

You can use the following email template to send the request. The e-mail must include your API Key which was received earlier via e-mail. We have created an e-mail template for you:

You will receive the Customer ID and Secret Key by email.


Step 5 - Activate the API key in Luminovo

💡 Potential issues when activating the API

If you receive such a message in Luminovo, when trying to activate the API key (list price) it might be the case, that the API key is still in status waiting and has not yet been approved by Farnell.

Step 5.1 - Activate API key for list prices only

Once your API Key was approved, go to the Luminovo settings to the tab Supplier API integration.

ℹ️ The API credentials are the same for the supplier sections element 14, Farnell and Newark.

If you skipped Step 4, you only get the list price via API and therefore only have one API key. Put this API key into the field API key in the supplier sections for element 14, Farnell and Newark. At this point, you can also select the currency and the store location.


Step 5.2 - Activate API key for contract prices

Once element 14, Farnell or Newark responds to the email from Step 4 you will now have the following information:

  • API Key

  • Customer ID

  • Secret Key

Those credentials can now be put into Luminovo to activate the API with contract prices.
